i7 930 @ 4.2GHz overclock multi throttle in Prime 95? - Page 2

No man, am pretty much f ed.
I tried all those different settings for the template for the past 3 hrs, downclocked my OC to 21x191 and specially the CPU voltage is now around 1.23V for only 4GHz with HT on.

On prime95 it stays around 76 - 82C for the first 20mins and the damn thing starts to throttle back to 12X Multi. I hate this stupid throttling feature. TJ max is 100C, cool, So why does it have to down clock at 80C! I am trying to do a stable 6hr prime95 run ..unbelievable..80C + on a H70 *Water Cooler* under 1.25 Volts @ 4GHz/ Thanks for trying tho..

Where are all the pro overclockers at OCN? last year I received a lot of help OCing my CPU. Where is everybody now? switched to the AMD side?

Update:
Disabled HT and that droped 16-20C! So no worry about overheating, but hate to do that since HT is something I paid for but cant have because of intel's this lousy throttling at 80C.

Did you disable "CxE Function"? If not, disable it and try again.

edit: And a 1.23 Vcore at 4GHZ is still pretty low. You should up it a bit more. Do you have Load Line Calibration enabled or disabled?

I Disabled the CxE, Load Line Calibration / EVGA vDrop is also Disabled (Without vDrop). Upped the vCore to around 1.275V. Idles around 40C and still downclocks to 12X after 10 mins of Prime95. Dont know what is it that I am doing wrong or something?

When you disable LLC, you get Vdroop, when you enable it you don't get Vdroop. Vdroop isn't a bad thing actually, and enabling LLC (disabling Vdroop) actually breaks Intel specs and might cause harm to the CPU at higher voltages because of voltage spikes.

Many argue that Vdroop is a good thing.

So turn off LLC (which enables Vdroop) and turn on EVGA Vdroop (which also enables Vdroop).

When this throttling issue happened to me, I fixed it by disabling C1E as well as CPU TM Function, which kept my cpu at a constant 4030Mhz.

Anyone else know what the equivalent of C1E and CPU TM Function are on his BIOS?

It seems like a year ago there were more helpful people on this board, where is everybody?

Hey, I think I got it man! (* hopes and prays )

So I wasn't sure about the LLC thing but from what I could gather, supposedly EVGA has some fancy names and calls the LLC Option "EVGA VDroop Control" and C1E is Called CxE but nothing on the CPU TM functon So anyway I proceeded to enabled the vDroop by selecting "With VDroop" and then I upped the voltage a few notches here and there, the vCore I upped it to 1.28750V. Then something struck me, I thought by the time this H70 must be kicking in at full speed, its already very late, so why not put the H70 at 100% always?(Since I heard a lot about others on OCN and the net doing the same,) So I went to PC Health Status > SmartFan Function and from there Selected CPU Fan type DC 3 Pin, and then I set the Fan Control to Manual and 100%. Dont know if that will kill my pump sooner or something, I hope not.

Now I am at 8 Hrs and 30 Mins Prime95 Stable @ 4GHz with HT ON and Temps were under 70C! And the best part is I never saw it down clock or the multiplier drop to 12X anymore!

1 thing that did bother me was that on Prime95 under 100% Load CPU Z shows my Core Voltage is at 1.223V. But at idle in windows with 0% load CPU Z shows the Core Voltage at 1.282V

Well anyhow, I am glad that worked out, and I hope I dont have anymore troubles with it.. I mean no game eg. BF, Metro, or Mafia 2 is going to push it like prime95 right? Now I am trying to create a topic and hopefully get some feedback from OCN overclockers or whatever is left of them, then tune it and improve the performance, see if I can do 4.2Ghz, if Not I am happy with 4GHz HT On

Thanks for all the help i7monkey, it really gave me hope and inspiration to go ahead and keep trying +reps

Edit:
if anybody wanted to see my overclock settings and leave me some feedback or advice. here's a link to my topic (http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...l#post15365751)

It's great that you got it working

Just remember that these crappy situations can rear their ugly heads every now and then, trust me I've had to adjust my OC and settings so many times in the last year it's not even funny!

If you get BSOD's from unstable overclocks, be sure to run that "sfc /scannow" command in the dos prompt right after to check for corrupt system files which might be a cause of instability in and of itself. Also use "chkdsk /r" every now and then too to test for disk errors.

That's what Vdroop is. Don't worry, it's normal
