Hey guys! New to these forums but i have been reading a fair bit over the past week

I have asked this question on many other forums but I am still not sure and since you guys have a massive user base I thought I'd post here to.

Well, I have a HD5870 in my pc at the moment and I'm looking to upgrade because i want to go Eyefinity. I really don't feel comfortable crossfiring as it wont leave me much room to upgrade in another year or two. So i was wondering if a 6990 would power 3 24" 1080x1920 monuitors in eyefinity.

I will mainly be playing BF3 online and quite possibly Skyrim!

well

I would sell the 5870 and then go with 2 6950's. They outperform a single 6990 anyway.

Two 6950s don't outdo a 6990...unless they unlock and OC quite well.

I'd go for a 6990. They can be found pretty nicely priced, especially in the forum marketplace. That way it only takes up one slot and you can upgrade later if need be.

Definitely wouldn't buy another 5870 for eyefinity. You're going to be limited by the 1GB vram.

Edit* would help if you filled out your system specs as well so we can point you in the right direction for graphic cards.

Unless your 5870 is the 2Gb version, get the 6990 or 2 6970s.

If your 5870 is 2Gb, it will definitely be CFX.

At the eyefinity res you posted with a single 6990 my educated guess would be around 40-45fps. Depending on how well the final game version is optimized amongst many other things. Depending on your CPU, along with how big of an OC you give the 6990. 6990+6970 on the otherhand will give you a full 60fps I'm sure

The 6990 isn't faster

Just on metro 2033 with settings on high and everything maxed out, Metro gets 7fps more.

To top it off, if you're buying new you can get 2x 6950's at a cheaper cost than a single 6990. Also, the power consumption and noise is a lot higher on a 6990.

One thing you might have forgotten about is your PSU. When I got my 6990, I had to upgrade my 850W PSU to 1.2KW because of the extra power the 6990 needs in 3D mode.

1200W is totally overkill for one 6990.

A good 850W unit should be fine.
