HDDs will die. It's only a matter of when. I buy the one with the longer warranty and better service. 4 times now I have gotten a better drive in return for my dead or failing WD drive.

Warranty isn't everything.
The F3 is one hell of a drive in terms of performance/reliability/price.

I will only buy Western Digital, and currently own over a couple dozen Western Digital drives.

I am loyal because of the service I get. I am able to get a replacement drive sent to me overnight, for free. I don't even have to send in my broken drive until after the new one arrives. They send me a prepaid label for that. It's a completely headache free experience, and I can't say the same for some of the other HD makers out there.

This is terrible news for me. I was waiting for the 4TB Greens, looks like Seagate will be beating Western Digital to the 4TB market, as their drives will be releasing any week now.

i love WD.... samsung drives make me a little nervous because i haven't had a lot of experience with them so i'm not sure how reliable they are... seagates are usually a swing or a miss with me... guess its time to try out some samsungs

I agree with you there, I also don't base my purchase solely on warranty but I would say its the majority of what I base it on. I'm still not going to buy a slower product with a 5 year warranty over a faster product with a 3 year warranty. I try to stay away from things with 1-2 year warranty though. I don't keep things for more than 3 years, and I like to resell things with some type of factory warranty left. Especially if i'm buying a brand new product that has no history, warranty is the only thing you have to determine longterm use.

I said nothing about being "sheep" I said "variety". So you scoof at my i5 rig. Well guess what? For every Intel system I build for friends/customers, I build TWO AMD systems. Just this year I have purchased drives from WD, Seagate, Samsung, and even Hitachi. I have purchased boards from Asus, Gigabyte, Biostar, and MSI. I don't have any brand preference. I could list 35+ brands of comp parts I have purchased this year.

Just because I build a system with ultimate bang for buck performance, you call me a sheep? Thanks for being so closed-minded.

I couldn't disagree more. For many people, data storage is first and foremost about reliability, and consumers ID that reliability by brand. It's like choosing a bank - you gonna put your millions in the bank down the street or in a credit suisse account in Zurich? Which is more secure?

Why not choose the tried, true, and reliable?
