New server for company use - Page 2

You are acting like this is going to be some huge AD for a large company. I can find about 4 websites that will walk him through a simple AD setup. He is probably going to have less then 10-15 user accounts. Doing anything more then a simple system state backup would be a waste of time.

What is funny is dcpromo will set up DNS, group policy, and AD for him. As far as going into the DNS Scavenging, he shouldn't need to worry about that in such a small implementation.

I don't disagree with you on having the proper support, but the internet (google) can fix 90% of the problems he will run into.

OP: Good site to help with any AD issues is http://www.petri.co.il/

It's part of my job, I support 17 sites ranging from 400 users to 6000+ users. When i started in this position i knew very little about AD. This is why I'm saying it shouldn't be a big deal as long as he can google and follow directions.

There's a big difference in learning AD because you're working in a job that requires you to do so, and being in a job where the line-of-business is something else. While he's "learning" and "Googling", his parents' business could potentially be losing money.
