Yuck.

It's Molex part number 46999-0024 (24 circuits, tin pins, black housing). Out of interest, what soldering iron tip are you planning to use to attach this to your motherboard? wink.gif

I have a Weller WD 1001 with very very fine tips. I messed around with another electronics project today but I screwed the PCB up. I need to get something other than desoldering wick to clean out the holes in the PCB. Does anyone have advice on a good desoldering tool?

Liquid rosin helps the flow enormously with desoldering wicks. Also a wide chisel tip rather than a fine point. Nothing wrong with the WD1001.

I have crimped pins to those PCB ends, although to be honest not 24 times. It may be easier to try crimping female pins to that before soldering. Remember hi-wattage irons are going to heat up any components that are on those circuits and could damage them.

yup you'll need a high temp solder with a nice clean tip and some silver solder.

If you are heating -- to silver soldering temps:
Soldering performed using alloys with a melting point above 450 °C (840 °F) is called 'hard soldering', 'silver soldering', or brazing.----From wiki

you are above:

Temperature index 140 °C 284 °F From the FR-4 wiki which is what most PCBs are based on.

NOT saying it cannot be done, I am saying be careful and silver solder temps will be damaging to any affected components.

I would try to all of your pins blind, then slide them over the PCB male insert, then solder the pins to the insert. That may work and keep you from damaging a 200-400+ dollar motherboard

not real silver solder. high silver content solder aka rohs compliant.
