Old specs were something like 2800+ AMD with 512mb ram 80GB hdd - As you can imagine without a reinstall of windows it was horribly slow.

Decided to replace it with some cheap parts are got the following;

1 x Intel Celeron E3400 2.6GHz Socket 775 800Mhz / £28.66
1 x Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2P / £29.94
2 x Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333MHz Me /£16.66
1 x Seagate 250GB Barracuda SATA-III /£22.85
1 x Casecom 500W / £14.93
1 x Black Micro ATX Case /£11.69
1 x Edimax Wireless-N150 / 11.65
Total £176

When buying the motherboard i over looked the fact there were no IDE slots so for now i am trying to install Windows over USB using a External USB sony DVDrw +- drive.

The problem i am having is when installing windows the files copying procedure (bottom right) is really slow!!!

It's taking 20 odd seconds just to copy a single DLL, the installer has been going 20mins now and has only got to 14%

Is this because it's installing over USB or do you think theres a problem?

Might be RAM-related. Try installing Windows with only one stick of RAM. Hope that helps.
