Loss of connection through cable splitter

Thread Starter
Our network setup is pretty simple: cable line from the wall into a 2-way splitter, one going to a TV, the other going to the modem, which then goes into a router. In the past we had a few problems with the network going down, and even when I try to reset it through unplugging the electric cord, it failed to regain a signal. Since we have Time Warner Digital Phone with this, the phone signal also goes down when the internet does, though the TV signal does not. I had to plug the modem directly into the wall to get the signal back, and I could then return the setup back to normal with the splitter and everything would be fine for a while.

Unfortunately, this problem has started cropping up far more frequently, happening almost daily.

Is there anything I can do before having to call the cable company?

Try using the cable that goes to the TV from the splitter for the modem. Could be a bad splitter or bad cable from splitter to modem.

(ad this happen to a friend modem wont work even if directly plugged to te wall but the tv would work fine. Lucky for him he had anothet wall socket for his service. So we just installed it on the other one that works fine.

this is the best thing EVER about your isp - [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3i3bKMzGaU[/ame] if you do not laugh starting at 4mins untill the end then you are not a human being

as an answer to your question i believe a splitter takes away slightly on your download and upload speeds per splitter you are using. 9/10 times i have had comcast come in to fix my interwebs they blame it on a splitter and i duno if thats the case or not but they seem to use it as an excuse most of the time... that or cables being too "old"

time warner cable doesnt come so he says i could write them an angry letter and they would think he was crazy so he WANTS them to know hes crazy so he takes out newpaper ads with his letter to time warner cable talking about how they have a similar method of service as stalin and why shouldnt anyone have a dif method then Stalins

its so good
