Upgrading from cf 5770 to 6970

Thread Starter
Ive been wanting to upgrade for a little while. Currently have 2 5770s in crossfire. Id like to get a 6970. Would I really see that big of fps increase? Would it be worth it to upgrade to that card is basically what Id like to know.

I feel it would be for the vram increase. your fps won't make a huge leap, but will definitely improve. this will also of course allow you to crossfire later for some serious performance. you should really overclock that cpu though to get the most out of that 6970.

There is no fps increase, my brother has the same pc as me but 2 5770's and he scored exactly the same as 1 of my OC'd and unlocked 6950.

There will be a small increase in fps.

Also your minimum fps will improve too.

Two 5770s = a 5870, and a 6970 is quite abit faster than a 5870.

will i really notice a huge increase in graphics in the games? as i tend to think the games i play the graphics look pretty nice now.

will i be able to play with higher AA and AF in games easier with the 6970 as apposed to the crossfired 5770s?

appreciate the comments

I went from a SINGLE XFX HD-5770 to my TOXIC HD-69(7)0 and it MORE than DOUBLED the FPS ... so you'd see at least a small jump from X-Fired 5770's ... though not sure if it would be worth the $$$ to do it, selling your Used HD-5770's you'd be lucky to get $200 for both, but if you could then for an addition $100 I guess the upgrade could make more sense, but not if you can't sell those 5770's. Now if you really want a performance jump and you X-Fire'd HD-6950/70 cards though that's a LOT of cash for an upgrade.

No kidding! crossfired 6970s would be awesome! however Ill probably just get one at the moment and get another in the future.

I was thinking of selling both cards for 150-200. Does that seem like a fair price?

Kind of my long term plan as well ... we'll see if the 7xxx series cards change it though

I guess yeah ... it would be nice to get more considering what they originally sold for (If I recall mine was $225 or ? at the time.) I didn't sell mine though, just moved it into a different Rig, and the 9800GTX+ from that rig will be going into the New Rig as a PhysX card alongside my TOXIC HD-69(7)0

I haven't seen any difference in fps from my 2X 5770 to my 6970. simple as that, i play at 1600X1050 and everything was just 60+ fps before and after. The noise/heat is better and the 6970 give you more upgrade or things to do, Ie you wanna change that monitor f your and buy a 120Mhz or build up an eyefinity, then you will see a bigger difference, otherwise depending of the game you wont see any improvment.

Also what do you play and at what resolution?

Hi,

Wait for the 7xxx cards that will be out shortly and see what they bring to the table.

If have a combo now that does everything well now, and if can get a
good OC on them alls good.

Stay ahead of the curve as much as you possibly can, as fast as this stuff
is moving.

Same boat as you are as to cards and going to skip the 6x gen.

Figure 2 or 3 gen jump if everything not bottle necking my software
I'm now using.

Later
