faulty/dying hdmi port on hd4850

Thread Starter
not sure if this is the right section, move thread if not.

so usually i have my main monitor hooked to my pc through the HDMI slot on my hd4850 and my second monitor hooked via the DVI port.

but all of sudden a few days ago, after a OS reformat - i saw that my HDMI monitor was:

1)blurry and fuzzy font
2)colors were very dull
3)things didnt seem as sharp

but my 2nd monitor thats connected through DVI was fine as always.

so i figured, maybe something is wrong with the HDMI. so i connected my main monitor via DVI and everything was "normal" again.

tl;dr
does this mean that the hdmi port on my hd4850 starting to get faulty? it was fine about a week ago... should i opt to reinstall OS again?

**
- already tried reinstalling video card drivers from scratch again
- tried a different hdmi cable

Very possible. I've had issues with older HDMI ports being finicky.

Very unlikely, something screwed up the registry or profile or rejected by UAC etc.

Remove Catalyst driver, shut down PC, swap the card to another PCIe slot, restart. You should get Windows basic display driver.

If Catalyst drivers are still loaded after uninstall, clean it with this;

Clean it with Atiman Uninstaller v.6.0.0.msi. Download LINK (Run it with administrator privilege. Some antivirus software will give a false positive. Let it restart to complete the uninstallation).

Install Catalyst 11.9 DO NOT INSTALL PREVIEW DRIVERS

Seems quite unlikely that a problem with the port would cause quality deterioration on a digital connection. In quite simple terms with a digital signal it either gets there or it does not, there is no quality deterioration like you'd get with analogue signals such as VGA/Composite/etc.
