Will this be enough? Want SLI

Thread Starter
Hello people!
My rig is in my sig. On the marketplace I found another 8800GT at a good price so I thought about buying it to put them in SLI.
My power supply is a 500W total, with two 12v rails, one rated at 20a, and the other at 17a, for a total of 340W
Will my PSU be able to power two 8800GT in SLI?

Thank you!

I had 9800GTs on 500 before, I would have said yes for sure to a 550Watt.

Thanks for the answers, so the wattage is good, what about the amperage?

Amperage wise no. For one 8800GT you should have 26a combined 12v rail. So double it and that is ~what you need for 2. You can probably get away with it for a while but I wouldn't recommend you use that psu.

What brand is the PSU and model?

500w can run dual 9/8800GTs, better question, what brand and model? Some may be labeled above their capabilities.

It's a PowerCooler PS500SS. I think it's a brand native to my country so you probably haven't heard of it. The peak wattage according to the label is 550W

You can use it, but if you start to encounter problems I would get a new one such as a corsair or similar.

Basically this. Without a known OEM, I can't tell you whether or not it will deliver its labeled wattage. The best way to check is to test, as risky as it may be. Best case scenario, it will just shut down randomly under load, and you'll know you'll need to replace it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll think about it. I don't want to buy a GPU and then not be able to use, but what worries me the most is blowing everything up if I try to make it work. If someone has a nice PSU and wants to sell it I'm all ears tongue.gif
Thanks again!
