Extremely hot after adding Xfire

Thread Starter
So I just installed my second 6950 and my cpu temps jumped bigtime! Gaming full load was 54c before Xfire, and I just hit 61c with Xfire. What should I add to my NZXT apollo case? Will adding a "pull" fan to my 212 make a difference? And should I add more fans to my case, and how?

6 Degrees for 1 more card in your system is not a big deal matey. Just keep that in mind.

As for more fans, you want to push all the air you can into the case, and pull out the 1 rear exhaust. Those cards are the same as mine regarding the reference fan layout. If they aren't reference cards and they aren't pushing hot air into your case - you want as much of the outside air to push into your case, over the boards as possible.

By the way, My AMD processor is overclocked and I use a Silver Arrow. - Excellent cooler.

That and the Noctua are the kings of air cooling for CPU'S. My CPU never hits over 50. It's usually far under even while stressed.

And with 2 6970's in the system in crossfire.

So don't worry. ...also did I say buy a Silver Arrow yet? *cough*.

get some high speed 120mm case fans and throw those suckers on some fan controllers.

Ya, I use 7 Fans on my system. All at low rotation unless I get a temp increase over 50.c for the system - which never happens.

I use 2 Fractal 120mm fans (not sure what they are called exactly.) & 5 Arctic Cooling F12 120MM fans with a bladed design. - The end result is a very quiet, very cool system.

And those fans are cheap as hell as well, only like £4.00 per fan.

that is pretty cheap, heck if you want a great fan controller that is built like a tank too get the Sunbeam Rhombous controller. Right now I'm running 6 fans off of one channel and it's not even breaking a sweat.

Be cairful listening to people who say that. I tried that setup and my system went up by 6 degrees due to no air being able to get out. Having 4 intake fans and three exhaust should be an ideal setup for xfire. You don't want fans blowing air against eachother, they work better when air is moving in one steady direction through your case.

Depending on your case you would have 2 front intake, bottom intake, side intake. Top two exhaust as well as rear exhaust.

Having a side fan blowing directly on your cards should fix your problem, although your temps arn't all that bad at 61 degrees load.

So If I buy more fans, where do they go?? I dont think my case (NZXT apollo) has any place to install fans. Theres no front or top fan, just one back exhaust and 1 side pulling in.

I have no idea. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102945

I'm just confused as to how I can add more fans without mauling my case.

Dual-fan GPU's don't vent hot air out the back of the case -- they just dump hot air back into the case. A 6*C increase seems reasonable considering.

Well, if you've got no more fan mounts in your case, your best bet is to swap your current fans for some higher-CFM fans.
