Thanks,

I have a G-7 Logitech wireless mouse, Logi keyboard, I have a 4 yr old HP W2408HD monitor.

I will do as you say about the SSD but have no clue how to install it and use it as the main drive, then I will get a big 7200HD for a 2nd.

This is what I've been looking at

GPU is up in the air, ATI or NVIDIA, as well as MOBO, and RAM

thanks,

I value your opinions

If you're just using your SSD for the OS and drivers, then all you would need is like a 64 gig or something a little bit bigger.

Thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated.
Your answer is a google search away. I don't have the link handy as I'm on my phone, but I have purchased a win7 student discount "upgrade " and successfully used it on a fresh install. All you need is a .edu email address.

I want to eventually build a new gaming PC but can only afford 3-$400.00 now. I have the HP above and it is a Quad Core 6700 with 6 Gigs of memory and the MOBO has the 1 PCI EX slot but a week PSU. So my plan is for now to upgrade the 2 for now.

So should I buy a cheaper GPU and and buy another same when I build the new rig and SLI or Crossfire them.

Here is what I'm considering

I just want to let you know to be carefull when choosing a power supply for an HP desktop.

One of my rigs is one of the newer model HP Elite 490t desktop and I waisted quite a bit of money on power supplies trying finding one that was compatible with the mother board.

First PSU was a Corsair TX750 v2 (did not work),tried another of the same model and did not work either then tried a Seasonic x 650 and this did not work either.

After visiting the HP forum and asking a few questions it seems that HP desktops have a hard time accepting power supplies larger than 600 watts for whatever reason and for some reason the Corsair HX 650 is one of the few psu's that are over 600 watts that will work with the desktop (which is what is in this desktop of mine now).

Just want to make you aware in case you run into the same problems I had so atleast you can have the opportunity to purchase from a place that has easy returns local so you don't have to pay shipping/re stocking fees..etc. Good luck.

If you've got the time I can help.you fill it out and try to stay a few hundred under your price point of 1600. Its fun to tell someone else how to spend their money lol since as you can tell from my rig I can't afford much lol.

Ill direct you to the win 7 thing too

For your budget you cant really do much atm but you can however go for the cheaper gfx card (not as much performance) and the good psu. 560Ti + 750w

In the end when you get the money, go for a rig like in my sig. 570, 900w, i5 2500k or i7 2600k, 8gb ddr3 ram and a nice mobo for around $1000 AUS. Sorry I don't know the conversion to american $
