steelseries 7h and xonar dg 5.1

I picked up this headset a while back from another OCN member. I know pretty much zero about audio, but the sound quality has been.....ok. Definitely not much bass that I'm hearing. Everything sounds tinny, metallic and far away.
I'm thinking it's much more likely my cheap sound card is the culprit rather than the headphones but I figured I'd post links for each so maybe you guys can point me in the right direction. I'd like to keep the headphones if at all possible, but am definitely open to replacing the sound card if necessary. I've tried just about every setting I can try. Played with every setting available. I've come to the conclusion that it just can't produce the sound I expect of it. Much better than my onboard, mind you, just not what I was expecting. I need a card for gaming only. I dont listen to music, I don't watch movies on my rig. I want a sound card I can take into a BF3 firefight and not hear any distortion. My budget is absolutely topped at 100$ and Id like to spend less of course if possible. That's not a huge budget, I understand, but what sound card do you recommend in that price range, preferably one that is compatible/works well with the headphones I already have.

I just don't get why the sound card gets such rave reviews on the egg and I just cant stand it. It makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong. The onboard is disabled in bios btw. Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Try clicking 'Bass' option in the 'effect' section of the Xonar DG audio center
It made mine a bit more 'bassier'

If the 7h headphones are anything like the 5H v2 headphones, then that's the cause. They sound absolutely awful. There is absolutely no bass and everything is so tinny it causes me headaches. I don't believe it's your soundcard. I'm positive it's the headphones.

I have these as well. I'll try them when I get home and see how they sound I suppose.
