Forgive me, still learning, the Sniper memory has timings of 9 10 9 28, does this mean that even though, they are almost tight and the ram runs at 1866, its CAL9 it will overclock good?

I don't really recommend the sound card either - it's not really needed nowadays - on-board audio has come a long way

You could view it as they are somewhat already factory o/c - they do offer a lower mhz version that has tighter timings

My worry is that you don't calculate room for your cpu cooler - some of those fins from the previously recommended memory kits won't fit under the silver arrow

I recommend reading up on Ivy Bridge as well - it should be release soon.

Also, what are you planning to use this computer for? I'm assuming gaming mostly?

I'll go through all the posts and check up on the stuff you guys pointed out (the different SSDs, for instance). Thanks for the input.

And I'm going to be using the computer for a variety of purposes; gaming, video encoding, graphic design, etc.

Hey Sn0w,

The following
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB

All running at 1600, 9-9-9-24 V1.5, I'm trying to understand what the difference between all of those above as compared to the one below. I'm going to say quality of memory, as a guess...

This one looks a bit factory o/c as well. (7-8-7-24 V1.6 @ 1600)

To start - latency difference is 7 and 9 and then Volts - with the CAS 7 because its already at 1.6V you won't be able to get much more out of them as with the other 3 you will be able to O/C but still will stay at CAS 9

To be honest I run 1333 and notice no issues but that's just for gaming.. I could probably overclock my ram as well and get it up to 1600mhz but I wouldn't notice a difference.

For other taks, such as video encoding why bother with trying to O/C get the highest rated ram and be done with it...

Memory modules are a no brainer and too much thought put into them will just slow your build down...

Few things to remember if you want to O/C them:
Low CAS and Low Volts - preferably <=1.5V
Stay away from RAM with large fins - they are simply aesthetic

Well, this didn't come to mind, since I've never actually, you know, built a computer before.

Can someone else confirm that the RAM I've been looking at (though it may not be the fastest, I probably wouldn't notice a difference) won't fit under a Silver Arrow CPU cooler?

The RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231456

Also, I've decided to get the 64GB Crucial M4 SSD over the OCZ Vertex 3 60GB, but the OCZ 120GB looks to be faster than the Crucal M4 120GB.

Which is why I mentioned it since no one else did.

Do a search in the thread as I've never worked with silver arrow before.

Faster != reliability

Google: OCZ bsod - there was a new firmware released last week which is suppose to correct the issues. Crucial released a new firmware that created a 20% increase in speeds last month.

I did a little more research and decided to swap out all Vertex SSDs, just to be sure.

And I also looked into the Silver Arrow + Ripjaws X compatibility - it looks like it's possible, but it's an extremely tight fit (and you may have to do some tweaking to get it to work).

I've decided to go with a Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler instead, since its performance is at the same level as the SA's and the Ripjaws X can fit more easily.
