I saw board caught on fire and saw MSI and stopped reading. This is common with MSI boards sadly. I have had two in a row that have caught fire. I am never going MSI again ever.

Anything 990FX should do very nicely, but they'll be costly. The Crosshair V is a solid board. Not sure about the others, I haven't really been pricing AMD parts for a while.

Sounds like you need to take that board back to MicroCenter and have a word with the manager. They might just give you a hefty discount for your trouble.

As for a board, this AsRock Fata1ty looks pretty good.

Yeah, the MSI 790 and 890 line of boards had a lot of mosfet/vrm failures. I had a 125W CPU in a 4+1 phase ASUS board and it was fine. The newer 990 boards should be fine (even from MSI since they allegedly changed the faulty design).
