What? You know it is a software problem but you still rag on hardware?

You could build a great desktop for the price that you payed for that laptop; one that would easily play BF3 on high settings.
The sad thing is I could spend the same amout if not more on a PC and run into the same problems. Clearly the PC would out perform this laptop I just got, but PB might still hold me back from playing a simple game from 2005. My problem lies not in the hardware I chose, but Punkbuster keeping legit players from playing old school games. It's frusterating being a player that doesn't cheat. I get killed so much from legit players (cause I suck) that I don't even care if someone cheats. I JUST WANT TO PLAY! Can I opt out of PB with BF2 even if I don't care if I play with cheaters or am I forced to figure out this issue. And if I'm forced, how do I do it with my current hardware?

Hopefully he reads this before he deletes it, but I had this problem with Windows Vista and BF2. I have no idea what OS he is running (and I haven't tried installing BF2 on 7), but the fix was actually very easy

As others said, download PBsetup for the game from evenbalance, and run the file AS ADMINISTRATOR. It is very important you run it as administrator. If you do not, it will not install (it is probably the reason it did not install when you installed the game)

Once you have it installed, locate your punkbuster A and B executables and give them admin rights.

Start the game, and all should be well. Good luck.

Follow that. Install punkbuster and update the games manually. Enjoy your gaming.

check if PnkBstra.exe and PnkBstrb.exe is on your firewall list and if its there, make sure you enable access from it.

post makes me lol. OP could have gotten a nasty MSI on the egg for $1300

wither you spend 200k or 200, the result will be the same. learn how to use computers, manually update PB. prollem solved.

One suggestion i READ BUT IT WAS TOO LATE TO ENFORCE WAS TO RUN pb AFTER THE 1.41 UPDATE. I DID THE BF2,,,, 3 DISK INSTALL, INSTALLED 1.41, THEN DID 1.50, THEN DID THE pb install/update. maybe I went out of order, and the only fix is to completely reformat and start over, and install in a different order?
