Yah thats the thing if something else comes along you can jump ship. I'm not really happy with verizons handling of android phones. It seems if its not a Droid they could care less about it. But after having sprint for a long time vzw's customer service is so much better. Sprint would fight tooth and nail to do anything for you. Phone issues they always blamed it on me.

But if we weren't under contract for so long with 3 phones right now with vzw. I would probably just say screw it and go get a galaxy sII with t mobile. This new $50 unlimited thing sounds sweet.

So yah being able to carrier hop is sweet. But I'm hanging on for the nexus mainly for the support it will receive straight from google. My wife's galaxy S on vzw just bearly got gingerbread last week. Which is a total joke.

If i was in States i would jump on it straight away. Unlocked phone + 1 month roling contract SIM only is really awesome. In UK it works out about 250 GBP more expensive that way, which is not alot given the 2 year period, but, as you said, the initial spend is the problem tongue.gif

well, something out of my expectations happened.

Was passing through the convenient store today before work and saw the magazine with a sub-title that says samsung galaxy SII HD LTE version "tested"

So I stopped and read through the pages and found they got their hands on this phone(which isn't released locally yet) and tested it.

I didn't do any research about this phone and to my surprise, it is 4.65" with 1280x720 resolution, just like the galaxy nexus (is it the AMOLED plus too?)

now that the GSII evolved into having the same-size screen and same resolution, has a better camera front AND rear(well somewhat), better cpu AND gpu, lighter weight, better battery, SD card slot option........

how does this phone not kill the nexus completely? even the biggest advantage the nexus have, the ICS, is gonna go to the SII LTE in months, and before that you can always go with custom roms. hell, the ICS-like roms are already out aren't they?

I mean, what does nexus have left after that to be honest?

I'm losing faith here guys....enlighten me.....

PS: I told you nexus dragging it on like this is no good......because eventually something good will come along and take its place even before it's out...

the galaxy nexus was never leagues ahead of the top phones when it came to hardware specs. the best thing it has going for it is the fact that all android updates will come straight to your phone. the gpu isn't very good for the phone it's in, the camera is"ok" compared to the top, and no sd slot sucks depending on if you wanted it or not. ICS is not a very good selling point when the phone comes out this late after launch. for me getting the updates asap is a must. no bloatware is a must, but that can be arranged with other phones. i can live without an sd slot, but i did want one. the gpu is the one hardware piece that should have been top of the line due to it's resolution. that's the only true shame about this phone. it's still a hell of a phone, but like most things that come out these days it could have been better.

has anyone seen the gps for this phone? i've yet to see how well it functions and i'm not looking for just opinions on how well people think it should work.

I am not really into mobile phone tech, but i cant understand why would anyone put pentile matrix screen on a high end device like this? The Razr looked absolutely terrible with it, i could make out pixels on the screen while holding the device 30 CM away from my eyes.

Sounds like the Razr was your first cell phone. People that cry about the screen make me laugh. Regardless of whether you can see the pixels or not, it's still a good screen. It might not be the best, but it's not as bad as your whining about.

The nexus is now(well soon). And it's on verizon. We don't have a SII, we have this. If you don't mind waiting then wait for the SII LTE. It's going to be a knockout phone. But for those of us stuck on verizon with unlimited data, this is our perfect phone.

There is no SII on Verizon. Not sure what network that lte phone was on. I'm also pretty sure it doesn't have a 720p screen either. Actually its 480x800 according to gsmarena. Camera on the SII is much better though. Also I agree gnex CPU should have been better.

But I to want the updates straight from Google. Again my wife's Galaxy S 1 just got GB which is a joke. Plus I can not stand touchwiz. So vanilla android without rooting is huge for me. Ill root anyways but the stock rom looks lovely.

yeah, this seriously sucks....the bad part is, I'll be a first-timer when i finally buy whatever smartphone I buy, even if the touchwiz is crap as hell I probably won't even know cuz i've never tried without.

I don't mind if the hardware and dimensions aren't leading, don't get me wrong, but i would hate if it's a total fail in ALL spec categories

I mean come on....release the phone in october and maybe it will be a big hit, but now?

chances are I'll probably get the nexus just for the OS convenience like you said and I found the no-buttom design to be quite cool, IF the phone does come out fast enough. But to be honest, other than that....I seriously found no attractive advantages of the nexus against galaxy S2 HD version. the new S2 simply has everything you could ask for at this moment except being a nexus phone.

Now if GN manages to fail so hard that it fails to release locally before the SII upgraded version, I won't be so surprised if I end up with that instead.

one question about video recording though, both phones have 1080p video recording capabilities, but will the MP number affect the video quality? like say the SII will make better videos because it has a 8MP camera?

Verizon's LTE while expensive is one of the better cellular broadbands. at least in SoCal. I've heard AT&T is better on the east coast. Compared to Verizion over there, i dont know.

If the Galaxy S2 was on Verizon i would definitely consider it. Its CPU is supposedly moderately better than the GNex.

At the same time, since capacitive buttons are out and on screen buttons are in, i feel like buying anything with cap buttons is buying old technology. ICS is moving towards button-less phones.

Keep in mind that I'm not in the US. You will have it soon. I won't.

Also, I'm at a place where telecoms don't get exclusive phone deals. Every telecom here gets every phone, and all these phones are unlocked. Telecom of choice will not be a possible advantage here, and neither will the price. As I've said before, upon joining the unlimited data plan, ALL phones are free of entry charges, even the galaxy note(which was supposed to be like $100 more than everything else)

So I take it that you agree the SII HD LTE is better then?

the existing SII is 480x800 as you said. The HD LTE version that isn't out yet however will be 720p, even the screen size will be exactly the same as the nexus.
