Faulty Core or Unstable BIOS?

Thread Starter
I'm trying to unlock the 4th core on my X3 710, and right after setting ACC to Auto and restarting, I can see The name change to "Phenom X4 10" during POST. The thing is, I can't get it to boot into Windows.

I've tried the vcore up to 1.45v, and the NB voltage at 1.35v to no avail. Also tried -12% on all cores and nothing. It hangs during the first Windows loading screen. I am able to get into Memtest though, but that doesn't stress the processor much anyways.

Should I try a different BIOS revision, or is my 4th core simply not usable? Motherboard is a DFI Lanparty DK 790GX-M2RS.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem getting into windows when I locked the 4th core of my x3 445 so what I did was just up the voltage to 1.3 (cpu voltage ) everything else is on default, you may need to go a bit higher.

Or it could be faulty. If there is a new BIOS you could try updating that.

I wish 1.3v worked.. I had it all the way at 1.45v. And I'm already using the latest BIOS.

You can up it a bit , as I have pulled my X3 445 to 4.0 Ghz @1.6 and stable even the temps were good but I use FSX so I needed that 4th core hence my current OC is 3.3 Ghz 4 core (Phenom B45). I can still up the OC but haven't got down to it lately.

try @1.5v-1.55v and avoid going over that. What cooler do you have ?

And even after that it does work I would suggest disabling the 4th core.

try @1.5v and avoid going over that. What cooler do you have ?
I have a Xigmatek HDT-S1283.

But I'm starting to not like the idea too much if I have to set the voltage so high.. 1.5v to just get it stable at stock clocks? I think I'd rather just overclock the 3 good cores.

Yep you could keep it @3 cores, it could be a faulty 4th core hence no boot in windows.

Can you tell me the stepping of the CPU , you can check that under CPU-Z. The C3 stepping has good OC potential.
