This is a better matchup against referance unlocked 6950's.

Otherwise I think you'd have an easier time just selling the 480 and putting that money towards another 6950.

Still, if you're worried about heat/power draw from a single 480, dual 6950s will be worse, and if you're playing on a single 60hz, 1080p screen, you likely won't see an appreciable difference in most games, despite the 6950s being much faster.
Trying to sell my 480 on local Craigslist atm so I can just buy a new 6950 myself (and get an unlockable one). I'm not too worried about the single 480 except for the heat. My PSU can handle the 480 but I'm just not happy with the performance it offers. I want an upgrade path, basically. Snagging a 480 for less than $300 new these days is pretty hard. Additionally, I'd need to upgrade my PSU. Most of them are going to be higher than that, tbh I can't find one for less than $380-$400. Newegg is out of stock even on the refurb models.

Kind of a lose-lose situation unless I bought one from someone on here with my Christmas money, which I would like to avoid if possible (PayPal basically sucks). I'd like to have a card with a decent amount of warranty left as well. Most of the 480s for sale used are going to be early adopters selling for the 6xxx/5xx series.

Meh

Hell man, I'd buy a brand new HD6950 for £180 and trade it with you for your GTX480, just so I can get a GTX480 for that little.
