Buying a used 1090T... problems?

I bought a 1090T from a user on here today for $120.... it is lapped, he says it has never been above 4.0ghz and for most of its life he left it stock. Comes with stock cooler and all paperwork, etc. I am now realizing after i paid and its said and done, that because its lapped, thewarranty is null and void. I purchased it quickly thinking the price was great. And now I am worried...

what should I do first when I get it to make sure all is well?

I paid with paypal and my credit card, so I should be protected if its trash, right?

Do you have it yet? Have you tried it out?

Put in your system, @stock clocks run Prime95 or IBT for a couple hours to check for any stability issues at stock settings, if no problem appears you just made a nice trade.

Well when you get it, test it obviously..just do some stress tests to ensure its stable at stock at least. If it dosnt work, then ask if he put insurance on the package. If he didn't or he dosnt talk to you then file a claim with paypal and ask him if he wants the dead cpu back.

Overall though, I've bought a lapped cpu and it's going strong so I wouldn't be too concerned.

Awesome. Thats what I was looking for. A little reassurance.

He is mailing it out tomorrow... i paid for it a few hours ago. He stated he is putting insurance on it... so I should be covered.

these are really things you should consider before sending payment.

i have bought many lapped cpu,s and so much used stuff from here and other forums and never had a bad part yet.but i also only buy from people with 20+ positive trader reps from here or at least 25 positive heatware.since i started buying used hardware i rarley buy new now, only when a new cpu is released i will buy the lower models, but later i will sell and buy used top end model.

but to what to do next, like others have said test it out at stock settings, run prime95 blend and make sure all is good,it should be.good luck with your new toy and have fun

Yup. I should have. But saw the price and wanted to snatch it up before it went away. I have never bought used hardware so i forgot what to ask/look for.

Oh well, Paypal/credit card will cover me, and the insurance that he says he is putting on it.

I would relax. You haven't even received the CPU yet. CPU's are the last things in a PC that go faulty.

I never realized you could buy insurance that protects you from any negative effect that lapping a cpu could bring on.Myself I thought the insurance was for loss or damage to the product while it was being shipped.I guess you could say it got lapped while it was being shipped.
