New PC Build, Steam / TF2 Crashes

Thread Starter
Hi all,

So I just finished building the system in my signature and it's working nicely! It's fast, responsive and cold (The H100 liquid cooler is great). I do have an issue, though.

When I have Steam open, unattended for a short period of time, when I come back it's usually frozen. Everything else works, but the application itself is unresponsive. As well, when I'm playing TF2, L4D2, RAGE, etc., the game will crash at random times, and simply show the hl2.exe has stopped working.

As my 2 XFX cards (in sig) haven't arrived yet, I am using my GeForce GTX460, which has never had an issue running these games before.

My old system build was:

Core2Quad Q8200
Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
4GB DDR2 RAM
GTX460
WD 640GB SATA Main drive
Seagate 1TB SATA storage drive

I'm at a loss, as I did a 3 hour LinX run, a 2.5 hours Prime95 and several HyperPi 1M and 32M runs, all with no errors and no crashes.

***?

I know for a fact that TF2 is broken right now...All the updates that Valve pushed out have destroyed the game's stability. Everyone is experiencing it. I was just playing not 2 minutes ago and my game crashed 3 times in the span of about a half an hour. The guys I was playing with had the same thing happen to them.

That would be great news, as I was about to start pulling out hair trying to figure it out.

How long has this been going on though? I had my system running sunday evening and it was having issues with steam, though only when I tried to exit a game, it would freeze. Yesterday and today have been brutal.

So if its been a couple of days that this has been happening, ill be relieved. If not, I have another issue to look into.

It started last wed? I've never had problems with tf2 until then when I crashed for switching classes. The steam forum is full of people with similar problems. No need to worry right now, just give them a bit of time and the problems should be fixed.

TF2 crashes for all... they just patched it, again, today.

Do you have other games to play? If you have other games that crash, then you might have a problem...

Ill reinstall starcraft and try that, but I'm running out of room on my ssd. I should probably invest in another for games.

Thanks for your input, guys.

I'm just glad it's not something I'm doing wrong, by the looks of it. SC2 plays fine.

Personally I'm very frustrated with all the crashing.

Game was running just fine BEFORE the "Manniversary"... now the crashes have totally ruined the experience.
