New build moving to AMD

Thread Starter
I am refreshing my main pc Keeping
2@ western digital 1t 6mb sata drives
750 corsair psu
Fullsize cooler master case
Nvidia gtx460

Ram-mobo-CPU need to be purchased - currently thinking of

GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

This is my first journey into the land of AMD. Since I mostly watch bluray rips and encode decode vid and use it for streaming to my ps3 (via ps3 media center)

Thoughts?

Looks like a solid build.

Depends on where you plan on buying parts from but 990FXA-UD3 shouldn't be much more expensive (only $5 more at Newegg) and will give you dual x16 slots if you wanted to do SLI later as well as matte black PCB.

You might look at this motherboard. Some of the review with the Bulldozer chip and it got good reviews. Here the link.

You also might want to check the asrock motherboard at this link and ask how the people that have the motherboard like it. Here the link.

You might check the gigabyte thread also and ask how they like it also. Here the link.

This review used the asrock extreme 4 motherboard so you might check out this link.

Still recommend you give a shout to the thread for both motherboards.

Good Luck on you choice and have fun building it.
