I need to breathe some life into my Atrix...

Yo OCN!

I was undecided back in July when I purchased my Atrix. I knew the SGII and next gen iPhone were imminent, but I couldn't hold out any longer. I didn't necessarily hop on the Atrix train at launch, (March 2011) but I was expecting that it would be a solid competitor for at least a year.

With Motorola releasing the Atrix 2 so soon, I feel as if the Atrix will be left to rot in the dark. I am starting to dislike Motoblur and want a more vanilla feel of Android. Does anyone here have the cyanogen mod on their Atrix? Any Atrix owners here to weigh in?

i got cm7 on my atrix. it's a game changer. really is if you are running stock...

IMO android is pointless if you want no modding. especially stock software from motorola is crap..

I can help you out a bit. I root/flash phones 2-3 times a week. I've done at least 10 different Android handsets. I just traded away my CM7 Atrix for an LG Thrill and I have to tell you, I miss the speed of the Atrix. I can't wait until CM7.1 comes to the Thrill, it should make a world of difference.

Now, on to flashing CM7 on to the Atrix. Note, you will lose the functionality of the Fingerprint Sensor and Webtop. If you use them do not flash CM7.

Here is a great guide on how to root, unlock, and install CWM (ClockWork Mod, a recovery tool that allows you to install Roms, Radios, etc):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1202883

After you follow that guide I suggest updating CWM to the newest version by downloading ROM Manager from the Market and clicking "Flash ClockWork Mod Recovery".

Now you can install CM7. To do that follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1257574

You should now be up and running. These are the easiest steps for flashing. When I first started rooting/flashing it was a WAY more tedious process that involved a ton of user interaction and know-how with ADB commands, etc. Good luck!

Oh and to address this issue, IMO the Atrix is a better phone than the Atrix 2. The Atrix has more storage space (16gb vs 8gb) and a slightly smaller screen (4" vs 4.3") and bigger battery (1930mah vs 1785mah) which results in better battery life. The Atrix 2 also gets rid of the Fingerprint scanner, which might not be a huge deal to some. However, the Atrix 2 does add FM Radio and an 8mp camera, but keep in mind more megapixels does not equal more quality, but rather allows the picture to be blown up larger, for lack of better terms. Also, the Atrix 2 natively supports 1080p video recording, but CM7 and numerous other ROMs on the Atrix allow it as well.

Anyway, that's just my take on the phones. Here's a straight-up comparison:

also i have a 2gb sd card, is it worth installing cm7 on the sd card instead of internal?

Big note on original Atrix it uses PenTile display (the 2 pixel and one shared pixel, so it's not true qhd and color quality may lack)
Just clarifying.

In RG-BG pentile screens (as in the original Galaxy S) there are 'shared' subpixels, in the RGBW pentile screen (as in the Atrix) there is no sharing, just the addition of a white subpixel. There is a difference.

O__O. Man you're right. I just can't believe I actually believed something from Engadget, I read on an article awhile back. Man I should know this I read news on the mobile industry about once every hour for the past two years (except when I'm sleeping or taking an exam, I think of it as my hobby I guess). Thanks for clarification man. I usually don't trip up like this x_x
