so my buddy is trying to get the most out of his old 775 build and well he has like the worst mobo as far as oc options but i was thinking i could put plug and play OS on in the bios and find some software to oc his pile umm anything you can think of let me know thanks guys

SetFSB perhaps, but it's highly dependent on the chipset, amongst other things. It'd be helpful if you could give the model # of the motherboard and/or its exact specs.

Motherboards not specifically designed for overclocking usually have VRM cooling that is either very poor or nonexistent, so that's another thing to consider.
