(Resolved)- Please speak to me gpu! don't be dead, please!

i think i may have killed my gpu.

the other day, i upgraded my drivers to the newest ones and overclocked it to the max settings without a single artifact, glitch or freeze-up. it worked fine all day monday as well as yesterday until i used sisoft sandra to benchmark.

the original benchmark went fine, but when i went to the section where it assesses your system and gives you suggestions on optimizing it, the comp froze up at 5%. i let the comp rest for about 4 hours after that, but when i turned it back it, and went to sign in, i noticed i was getting a black screen where i should have been getting a login screen.

no matter what i did i kept getting that same black login, so i decided to use one of the extra drives to reinstall windows. got it installed and turned it on and everything was fine except my resolution was 800x640.

so, i went to change it only to find out, it was locked at that low res. this got me curious, so i went into device manager and low and behold, instead of seeing my 5670, it lists "standard vga adapter" as my display adapter. also, it says there is an unknown device plugged in but that it can't identify it.

i'm wondering if i killed my gpu or just need to reset the drivers somehow.

well if you re-installed windows its gonna say "standard vga adapter" until you re-install the drivers for that card (The CD that came with it) also, since you re did windows u erased everything I presume. but if the CD that came with it does not work then I dunno then. Also why did you make 2 threads? Oo

Install Catalyst 11.9 and you will be fine. Do not install preview drivers.

Here is the link Catalyst 11.9 for 5670 Win7 x64, install the whole package http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...n_win7-64.aspx

If you can manage to boot in safe mode, go to Device Manager, select display adapter > select "unisntall".

Boot into normal mode and clean all ATI graphics driver with:

Atiman Uninstaller v.6.0.0.msi. Download LINK (Run it with administrator privilege. Some antivirus software will give a false positive. Let it restarts to complete the uninstallation).

Install Catalyst 11.9 WHQL, link above post. Install the whole package, select "express" install instead of selective/custom. Do not install drivers in the CD.

"failed to load detection driver"

edit: nevermind. i got 11.9 to install. however, that didn't solve the problem at all. seems that installing ati drivers whether 10.9, 11.5 or 11.9 causes my login screen and desktop to show up as just a cursor on a blank screen.

Don't understand you as what failed, driver install or ?

Edit:

Do not install preview drivers as it will conflict with UAC.

Run Windows Update and install all available excepts AMD graphics driver. CCC needs some of the Windows component to work correctly.
