Green/Pink dots with EVGA GeForce 8800GT

Thread Starter
so i have the old blue EVGA GeForce 8800GT. my friend gave it to me a few years back, he didnt know much about computers neither did i, but i knew how to install/uninstall the card. i threw it in my machine, worked great for about a year, then i started to get green and pink dots on the screen hen i play games, only way to make them go away was a restart which they would just come back. and its been sitting for about another year (new system and card below). so i know its the card, you guys just think its a bad card? its old.

If i can get it to work right ill throw it in my second computer instead of letting it sit around

Sounds like the card is dying. Maybe time to bake it?!

have you tried cleaning out the gpu first? Remove the fan cover and blow out any debris/dust/pet hair that might be clogging up the heatsink and fan.

If that doesn't work then it could be that a gpu bake could reflow the solder.

The first solution would be the easiest and best to try first before considering baking it.

Also make sure your monitor cable isn't loose. I've been scared that my GPU is messing up a few times in the past and it turns out my monitor cable has just wigged loose. My old desk wasn't really meant for computers and the monitor cable was barely long enough to reach the DVI port so it was under a little stress.

i dont know how i forgot to put this in here, i just remembered, when i put it in and turn on the computer, its gets REALLY hot.. like hot to where i cant touch it, thats probably why its artifacting, but idk why its over heating, and getting hot that fast. the fan works. should i remove the heat sink, clean it, and put more thermal compound on it??
