NO LIVE via Ethernet hub

Thread Starter
I recently moved into a new flat and I only have access to one Ethernet port in the room and unfortunately have 2 devices that require it. I bought a Ethernet Hub of eBay a week ago for a few quid and my Xbox cannot connect to live and I'm pretty sure its because of the settings since its not actually connected directly to a router. So i was wondering if anyone could help?

ps. I cant access the router page since its public Draytek one and default pass wont work

What exactly do you mean by hub? Can you link us to the model?

Just a little box with 5 Ethernet ports in of which one goes in and I can have 4 more come out. Its essentially a router but not ADSL just an Ethernet. I'm using my pc via it currently so it seem to work.

Its a Tenda S105.

thanks for the reply.

That's a switch... not a hub.

If you're paying an ISP, you get allocated only one IP. You need a router to create a subnet and assign additional IPs. If the flat complex is paying for the Internet, you need to have their router to allow you to have more than one IP.
Once again...

You need a Router. If you're using Public Access, they are already providing you One IP (Private Usually) and no more, so you have to split those with a Router.

A Workgroup Switch or Hub will not work in this circumstance.

Yea after a little more googling which should probably have been done before purchasing I have found this. My mate is obviously lying he says his worked on a PS3(actually just heard this may be true)... So I need a router to act as a pc taking this IP from the ISP then spreading it to the other devices.

But can I get a router that takes an Ethernet connection? I have no phone line in MY ROOM and using the one in the kitchen would default the object of the switch?!

thanks guys
