HD5870 Eyefinity 6 - Aftermarket Cooler.

I have done a bit of searching on this, but still have my doubts so would love your input.

I have 2 HD5870's Eyefinity 6 2nd gen cards in my rig currently with stock cooling. My case is an Corsair Obsidian 650D so i have lots of room. This is all laid out on my ASUS Rampage III Formula Rog X58, laid out in PCI-E slots 1 and 3/ and in PCI-E slot 2 i got an Asus Xonar D2X sound card.

I'm thinking of the Thermalright coolers Spitfire 6 and R5 but sadly one my case doesn't provide side air flow from the side cover, and also the Spitfire is a monster which can be flipped, but the R5 can't.

Thanks for your input in advance. Your help is much appreciated.

If you have enough PCIe slot spacing, these will the best and have more than enough heat sinks for the 2GB VRAM and VREG. But will turn your card into a three-slotter. As these will dump heat into the case, so airflow is important. Look around, each can be had for $70.

And what will happen if you don't pay attention to the details of installation http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/1138717-monitor-loses-signal-10-20-sec.html

I took a look at the links that you posted, and yes no contact over heating is a scary scenario. But i do not think that i can afford to use up 3 slots of space. I was kind of hoping that i wouldn't be forced to do water cooling again as it made my machine way heavy.

Here is how the inside looks, yes i do need to dust it soon.

Any other ideas?

Put one or two 120mm fans blowing directly from side panel, you will do fine. I don't see why you need to use a custom cooler, those cards are not running hot and strong with 2GB/GPU in crossfire. Also, your casing is not ideal with custom cooler as the heat will be dumped inside the case.
