System freezes/degraded performance

OK, trying to explain this a little better. I am getting random pauses on my system. everything used to run great, now sometimes while installing a program, it will freeze for seconds then come back and work fine than will freeze again.

Another version of this is, in crysis 2, when the game loads up after the screen where you can hit enter, between switching to the new screen it freezes, it didnt do this before.

The 2nd problem is im having major video lag at times. My little 5850 ran perfectly fine on 1920x1200 and has ran fine for months on my little 1600x1200 monitor. but lately video performance will drop and lag bad at points. dosnt have to be anything intensive either its really random.

Could that have to do with the HD? im running my ssd as OS and my 500GB samsung f3 has all my games on it. Thanks for the input. i can run any tests needed that would help rule something out.

I would run SeaTools on both your hard drives. All you need to run is the "Long Test" on them. Stuttering like that while working on your system normally is a common sign of either a bad OS or bad sectors on a hard drive. Unfortunately Samsung (AFAIK) doesn't make a tool for mapping out bad sectors (like SeaTools for SeaGate and WDDLG for Western Digital do) so if SeaTools comes back with bad sectors on it, or takes longer than ~4hours per terabyte you have a failing/failed/bad hard drive.

This is not to say nothing else is wrong with your system, but doing repairs on couple thousand PCs, I usually start with the hard drive and work out from there.

For your Samsung drive, download and run ES-Tools. It can test your drive (do the short and long test) and tell you if there are any errors.

The other thing I would recommend is, if you are getting errors and lag, try swapping out your Samsung's SATA cable. You would be surprised how often its not the hard drive that's problematic but the stupid $2 cable!
