[Recommend] Windows Home Server 2011 Hardware

Thread Starter
Recently, I've changed directions on what I plan to build and do with my server. Virtualization isn't something I need at home, nor desire to pay the heavy price for.

I currently have 8x2TB WD hard drives and I'm looking to fit the rest of the hardware into a nice tower and get it running. Originally I planned on making a super server and having 32GB of ram, but that is no longer the case.

I love my i7-2600, I was thinking about going with an i5-2600 for this machine, anyone see any issues with that? So, what would be a recommended raid card for a RAID6 on those drives.

Thank you all so much!

Do you plan to do transcoding? What will you be using the WHS for other than backups and file serving? If only file server, have you thought about freeNAS and forgo RAID6?

The only low-cost RAID6 option is a PERC 6/i for around $120 used.
Once again...

I dont plan on trans-coding too much, as most of my files are mp4. It will basically be a file server that will run a game server or 2, for now Minecraft (No special hardware needed).

RAID6 was suggested to me as a great balance between speed and safety.
