Anything else I should know before SSD installation?

Thread Starter
Not to distant future...an Intel 320 SSD shall arrive. Things I'm doing or taking precaution of even if it may not make much of a difference...

-Connect to Intel Controller
-Enable AHCI
-Install Windows
-Disable Pagefile
-Disable Scheduled Defragmenting
-Disable AHCI
-Update Firmware
-Re-enable AHCI
-Check TRIM via 'fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify' command
-Install All Programs
-About 40-70GB Left Afterwards

Is there anything I need to double check on?

Additionally...I've been trying to keep track of my idle state and it seems that I do have some type of writing going via 'system' at around average of 30,000B/sec (lowest around 5,000 and highest around 200,000). Since I leave my computer on often 24/7...would those system writes degrade my drive fast? If the answer is yes...then I may have to rethink on stuff.

Follow this guide lol. http://www.overclock.net/ssd/929553-...p-secrets.html

Also here some of my feed back and extra info. lol
In that guide I don't do the short stroking, besides that everything else is fine. I left prefetch enabled like TC said, it does make the drive boot up a tiny bit faster from my experience.

Also you can disable unused windows features:
Turn off Unused Windows 7 Features

There are many feature in windows 7 that we often don't use.

Disabling unused features in Windows 7 will really help in speeding things up and reduce a little space.

Open up Programs and Features from Control Panel.
Click the Turn Windows features on or off from the left pane.
Now uncheck all the Feature that you don't use in Windows 7 [e.g. "Games"] and restart the system for the changes to take effect.

And here is infor on making sure Trim is set up properly if you needed it

TRIM Commands

Enable TRIM
Go to the Command Prompt and type:
fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

Disable TRIM
Go to the Command Prompt and type:
fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1

How do I know if TRIM is working in Windows 7?
Go to the Command Prompt and type:
fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)

I did pretty much what you listed on both of my SSD's to date and never had a problem.

Right after you install windows, install the latest chipset driver and then Intel RST.

Then set your power scheme to whatever you want it to be. Then run the Windows Experience Index tool. This will tell windows you're running ssd and will disable some unneeded functions such as defrag. More importantly, it will send information about your setup to cmos. Ignore the rating it gives you, it's unimportant.

After that, continue on.

My many months of fighting Vertex 3 bsod problems have taught me to do some things that normal users don't do when setting up.
