Please help me with my WC loop/draining system!

Hey guys,


So a while ago I posted a similar diagram of how my loop is going to run in my system.

I'm at the point where I've got almost all the bits, all that's missing is tubing and fittings.

Have a look (ignore the HDD cage behind the pump/200mm rad, it'll be removed):


This is the hard part. I need to know, where in this loop should I install a Koolance QDC in order to get the best draining?

My mind right now is to put it somewhere on the line coming from GPU2 into the reservoir portion of the res-top on my pump. This would be the lowest point, and I'm assuming gravity and syphon action will do the rest once it's disconnected and the end coming from the GPU is hooked up to my water jug receptacle under the table.

I'd appreciate any insight as to how to go about doing this/how to improve the loop further.

Nope, theres no need. You will be able to unscrew that rad and get the pump outside the case, then unscrew a rotary fitting with a bowl under.

Ill Demo... ill pull my pump out..

Comments on your design.

Have the 200mm rad as an intake. that in/out thing you have going on is a bit odd.(with side as exhaust)

Rotary fittings on the GPU to Res so that you can swing it.

Loop order doesn't really matter, I would even have the GPUs first since they are in paralell they need that pressure.




As promised.
Watercooling Link is sig will show the pump when its in its correct position. (I have the same pump/top)

Really appreciate you taking the time to show me that, so far that's the best idea I've yet heard (and I've heard perhaps too many.. :S)

Also, after looking at the dimensions of the case and the rad, the tubing will be long enough to allow me to do this without removing the radiator.

While we're at it, I realise that the intake/exhaust on the same face of the case seems strange, but the HDD cage intake fan is quite tame, it won't be sucking much, if any of the warm exhausted 200mm rad air in I don't imagine...

I am much more concerned about having the most violent of my two rads spewing its exhaust heat at great CFM directly into the basement of my case though, if I were to reverse it into an intake. But in practice does it really matter?

You're pulling the 3.5 Cage out so then yeh that will be fine, since you will have side intake too I imagine, you could change the HDD fan on there you exhaust too.

Not too sure on noctua fans, they might be silient but ive heard that they suck on rads -low static pressure.

I'm looking at your diagram and I'm not sure where you think hot air will come from effecting the bottom of your case. The flow of your fans look ok to me.

I would stick with having all the rads going in the same direction (either inlet or exhaust). If you start mixing things up then you get into a situation similar to stacked rads, where the cooling power of the second rad is greatly reduced.

Yes then no, in that order. Yes loop order doesn't matter, no the GPUs don't need pressure.

The flow rate through the loop is independant of the loop order. It is a sealed loop so the flow rate at every point (except the parrallel GPUs) will be the same. Therefore it does not matter what order you put things in from a flow rate point of view.

Cooling ability is independant of pressure in these systems. The change in density of water is negligable, as is the change in Cp. Turbulence and heat transfer rates are dependant on flow rate, not presure.


One last thing, those NF-P12s that you have picked are actually very poor on rads. I would swith them for something like Yate Loons, or if silence is important Scythe GTs.
