Setting up Linux?? Help please!

Thread Starter
In a nutshell I'm using the rig in my signature and want to fold BigAdv work units. I've intstalled VMware 3.0 and Fedora 15.

This is the guide I've been using; http://www.overclock.net/folding-hom...ng-bigadv.html. I've been able to do everything up to step 6 and this is where I'm currently stuck.

Quote:
6.) Right click on any panel (or on your desktop - wherever you want your launcher) and "Add to Panel" > Custom Application Launcher > Add

Type: Application in Terminal
Name: 8 Cores (or 12 Cores)
Command: Browse to the 8cores.sh (or 12cores.sh) file you just created
(You can even change the picture if you want by clicking the square in the top left)
I do not see this option, no matter where I right click. Please help, as I get the feeling I'm probably missing something stupidly obvious.

Try right clicking to the left of the firefox icon, assuming you still have it on the panel. If you are looking for add to panel.

A quick dirty solution in the form of a desktop shortcut:
Right click on your desktop, create a new file and name it whatever you like.
Open that file with gedit/kate/whatever your text editor is.
Add this to the top of it: "#! /bin/sh"
Get the path of that 8cores.sh file you made in the guide (like /home/username/folding/8cores.sh or wherever else you put it) and add the path to the next line.
Save and exit your text editor.
Open a terminal, cd to your desktop (usually cd /home/username/Desktop).
Type "chmod +x nameoffileyoucreatedondesktop" and hit enter.
Done! You can use that shortcut to run folding now, and I THINK you should be able to drag that file to the top panel and make a little shortcut there too, but I haven't used Fedora before.

Try following Digi's Guide, it is very comprehensive and has step by step pics. It is by far the best guide I have seen for setting up a 2500k/2600k for bigadv. Also, even though it says its for a 2600k, it works just the same for the 2500k. Hope that helps!

EDIT: One thing, for the 2500k, you need to change the corefix.sh file, where it states "{ TARGET_NCPUS=12 }" you need to change the 12 to an 8. Besides that, everything else is the same.
