Need cheap HTPC for xmas! :)

Howdy folks!

Just decided im gonna make a cheap HTPC for the whole family for Xmas as a suprise. Ideally I would like this to be as cheap as possible, it would be coupled up with our front room 46" HDTV.

Do your best folks!

Thanks! (I thought it would be best to ask the experts when it comes to whats needed for a cheap HTPC! )

Check out my HTPC. Made it for about as cheap as one would need ~$400 total

Edit: Though you could probably get away cheaper using an APU or i3 and ditching the video card, but the 430 is pretty capable and can output 3D and bitstream true dolby audio.

Good luck with the build

Erm no games needing to be played Andy, Budget I dunno...£250 max. I was hoping to get it done for under 200 though?

Ryanbob nice list! I might be able to do it without RAM, im planning on upgrading my own and I will just put my ddr3 ram in the HTPC. Oh and I also have a spare WD caviar blue 640GB drive I think..so I could use that too!

Could I overclock that processor? And would it play movies fine no stuttering?

A word of advice, don't skimp on the case. I love my Silverstone Grandia, but originally it was a $50 Sentey that looked cheap, was a pain to work with and overheated like crazy while making tons of noise. Save yourself the trouble and find a good Silverstone or LianLi case. Not to mention it'll probably be pretty visible, and very obvious if it's an eyesore.
