Upgrade for my Rig - Page 2

My advice would be go Sandy Bridge.

2500k, 8GB RAM, any Z68 Gen 3 ASUS/ASRock/MSI board that have the VRMs to overclock.

This path is also quite future-resistant, too, as when IB comes out (should you choose to get one) you could just drop the processor right in and sell your 2500k off.

This, don't touch Bulldozer.

You do realize that the i5-2500K is the best processor out right now for gaming... Also, games only use 4 cores within a processor. As of right now, the i5-2500K chips beat the pants off of the FX chips.

Here is a comparison between the i5-2500K and the FX 8 core processor. Technically your processor should perform worse than the FX 8 core processor too.

The i5-2500k is the winner in both performance and price. If you live near a microcenter, the i5 is $190, the same price you listed for your FX chip. Even if you have to buy it for $220, it is still worth it. Newegg is selling them for $205 with a promo code.

The 2500K has a coupon for it atm, but there are combos which make it even cheaper, such as this, this, or this. For RAM I'd choose this, or anything which has a better deal that pops up, since newegg has sales and shell shockers of worthiness often.

EDIT: Microcenter sometimes has even more awesome deals, even combos with motherboards for <$300
