Duron processor,

Thread Starter
anybody know the wattage on this processor?
have friend at work and the computer is constantly resetting.
has 2 cd drives(i already disconnected one)
one hard drive
one stick 233mhz ram 256 bit
ECS board(video on board via chipset)

only has a 200 watt ps(should be plenty for what it does)

thinking either board is faulting out or cpu has degraded beyond usability.
temps look good 39c 112f(could be wrong)
has had several can not detect rom resets.
hard drive doesn't make any noise.(6 months old)

anybody have an idea? when it stays running it runs absolutely great.
have redone the thermal paste twice.

It would help if the exact model Duron you have is known. Try to find out with CPU-Z and post that up. Different Duron models have different wattage requirements and that's the info needed to tell you what it's rated for.

Also don't forget bad RAM could be a problem too but the board he has (ECS) is not a great brand name for good reason. Normally the board or RAM tends to go bad before the CPU does unless it's ran into an issue before such as running really hot once or something. The temps you stated are good but what temps does it have under a load?
Knowing that will also help to diagnose the problem.

I knew i was missing something. i will get the cpuz tomorrow.
really never a real load on it, i have cpu hardware monitor on it now so i can watch the temps. have not seen go above 41c yet. even if he board and face booking.
we both are mechanics using a program called reynolds and reynolds. basically the computers we use serve as a host to the server program which is Linux based.
so really the only load it gets is web surfing.
just have an interface program installed to access it.

Is that like a 10 year old chip or something?

Get the CPU-Z info and I can take it from there.

Yes, that's right.
I'm sure the 200W PSU he has can handle his system no problem. Would be nice to know exactly what his particular chip is rated for.

Have an 800, 1000 and 1600 Applebred myself, all of them still work to this day.
