Western Digital back vs Samsung spinpoint F3

Thread Starter
I'm currently looking for the best Hard drive with the fastest performance and less noise and failure risk. I like to do video editing and 3D rendering but the applications will be on a 64/128GB SSD although if possible I might store the rendered files to the 1TB Hard drives I might pick if its possible. Anyways her are the 2.

Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB 7200 RPM WD1002FAEX

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM

Also I noticed that WD HDD has 64mb cache and is priced expensive while samsung is 32MB and is priced cheaper and I want to know what this thing called cache is.

cache usually gives you better performance, I would get the Black, because it has a 5 year vs the 3 year on the samsung. I own that black drive, its a great performer for a HDD.

The F3 is VERY fast, but the Black is a touch better.

For the price ~50 for an F3 I would just get one of those.

The cache size has almost little to no effect on performance. It's a matter of the # of platters inside which is why the cache is larger.

Both are equally fast. You really can't go wrong with either. Sustained speeds will be roughly the same. The F3 may be a bit snappier on random reads/writes.

This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145533 is the fastest 1 TB drive on the market right now (read/write). Supposed to pretty quite as well, just came out so no info on failure rates yet but comes with a 3 year warranty, definitely better than the Caviar Black.

do you know lets say I download Sony vegas on a SSD drive but I want it to save to the main 1TB HDD is that possible with out manually having to send the files from one to another?

The WD Black actually have a quicker read/write if I remember correctly.
