7.1 Gaming Headphones - Page 2

For gaming you do not want to go near surround sound headsets. They don't work well.

Go for a good quality stereo headset and a clip on mic or free standing mic.

Have a look at these:- BEYERDYNAMIC DT 770 Premium 32

these are some of the best quality you can get without needing a stand alone amp.

get beyerdynamic dt770 pro-80 headphones and a separate mic.

1. headsets do not have the sound quality that dedicated headphones have (none that i know of, though i know beyerdynamic makes some super expensive gaming headsets)

2. surround sound in a headphone is a sham. sterio is what you will be hearing, no matter how many speakers your headhpones have. with speakers that close to your head, too much depends on the shape of the ear and other things for real 5.1 or 7.1 imaging to be realistic.

3. the beyerdynamic dt770 pro-80 headhones are fantastic for imaging, and the bass is able to extend so low it is unbelievable. if you are in a tank that blows up in unreal tournament 3, it sounds SO REAL with these headphones... its insane.

make sure you have a good source. the x-fi titanium sound card would be the minimum i would go with, but it would be even better to get a sound card made for headphones, or even better yet to get a dedicated dac/amp combo.

Stereo over surround for gaming. When using surround headphones like your G35's it can sometimes not place sounds correctly and you think the sound is coming from a different direction, which in fps can lead to deaths as your looking the wrong way..

Everyone's actually suggesting stereo headphones

I put down a couple names for 5.1's o in case thats what you were ONLY looking for. DT770 with your budget, really cant go wrong. Grab the 32ohms over the 80/250ohms if you don't have a amp/soundcard.

I love my G35's for positioning in TF2, I cant use stereo for them, pr any others because it doesn't feel quite right to me.
Although I got my pair of G35's for $40 it was the best deal ever!
I have to admit that they aren't as good as quality stereo headphones when listening to music, although the G35's stereo mode is quite sufficient to listen to music.
My take if you can find a gaming pair for cheap get them, My purchase was well worth it and I have no regrets at all!

I literally play at exactly the same level no matter if I use a stereo headset, surround headset or am listening to music while I am playing (yes I do that, it's relaxing). Stereo isn't necessarily better than surround for gaming or vice versa. It's all about personal preference.

So OP get whichever type you want to get. Surround does sound cool but if you don't want it, don't get it. I would personally pick up a 7.1 surround headset anyway, the mic quality will be fine if you get a decent one and if it has it's own mixamp or soundcard you can probably switch between stereo and surround (I'm pretty sure the Razer Megalodon can do this).

Ok So after some research Ive noticed a trend, Asus for music Creative for FPS?

Seeing as im going to be using the headset for Almost Purely Gaming ( BF3 MF3 Ect. )

Ive come to the conclusion Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD Will be the best Sound card for my situation but still cant decide on the headphones. i want something that's going to give me the best idea of my positioning.

Cheers Hawwtie
