amd phenom ii x2 550 incorrect temps

amd phenom ii x2 550
Biostar a880g+
4 gb rip jaw 1333 ram

Okay so i just got done with a new build and i want to try out overclocking for the first time, but i am worried because my mother board doesn't appear to be giving me the correct temps and i don't want to push the cpu over 60c.
Amd over drive is telling me that my idle temps are 17.5c and my max temps under load are 38c, i checked these numbers against my bios and the idle temps that this program is giving me are off by about 16c according to that.
I was just wondering if any one had any solutions to my problem, i updated my bios and i have tested the temps with other programs and i am getting generally the same numbers.

Hi.

Download coretemp, it's more accurate in temps.

Hmm... I think AMD overdive is the one giving you wrong temps.

Idle at 17°C? Is your room temp like 2°c?
Download Coretemps and you can see a more accurate temps reading.

First, ignore idle temps they will not be accurate. You are correct that your motherboard is reading wrong temp aka "CPU Temp" which is from a sensor in the socket and is typically 7-10C higher/off than the actual temp being "Core Temp" (read Core Temp under load).

AMD Overdrive, the Core Temp program, and the core section of HWMonitor all read the same "Core Temp" value which is not accurate at idle, but will give you the most accurate temps under load and peak temps (45C+).
