Quake 3 doesn't even support crossfire as far as I know. Neither does CoD 1. So if those are the only games you play, I think it would be a waste. Also 4GB, Quake barely even breaks 1GB. CoD 1, I'm not sure about. So if you were to get ANOTHER 4GB totalling to 8GB just for those 2 games, Personally I think its a waste. For those two games, I think you are completely fine. Maybe a small upgrade on the graphics but personally I think thats it.

Also if your task manager is saying there is little to no spare ram, What are you running? What OS are you using? How many processes are there running? Task manager should say it on the bottom left.

I played Quake 3 on a Duron with like 128mb RAM on max with a Geforce2 MX200

And what are you doing to have your computer say you are using almost all 4GB?

Yeah, I've played Q3 on really old graphics cards and small ram. I suggest a small upgrade maybe because of CoD 1 as I don't know how that plays and whatnot.

ALSO, What settings are you playing CoD 1 on?

What do you mean by your computer 'struggling'? 4GB RAM should be sufficient, especially if you play games that old. A 4870, quite frankly, is severe overkill for Quake III or COD1 (COD1 uses a modified Quake III engine.) Hell, I've been able to play COD1 at high settings, without lag, on a circa-2006 Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop with a 1.66GHz Core Duo processor and integrated GMA 950 graphics.

Even for CoD he should be fine with that setup, I use to run it on a Celeron 1.4GHz, so the requirements are really minimal. If you're just going to play those two games, you are fine with the setup you have atm. No need for anything.

sorry i didnt mention that when using the 4 gig its not for gaming, its windows 7 ultra and it used all my ram when im doing quite a few things at once, and my girlfreind also finds it sometime locks up on her when shes doing a few things at once

call of duty i play maybe twice a month lol quakes my main game

some times i get lag and a blockky screen but this could be the server? as ive heared a couple of other people complain about lag

my harddrives some cheap wester digital engery saver thing. would a faster harddrive improve things?

If you decide to upgrade your computer you could always branch out to other games. Variety is the spice of life.

I'm not sure on what parts cost over there so I can't really give specifics on what parts to upgrade.

However, I can give you some pointers.

1. Do you have an OEM or retail Windows license? If it's OEM it won't activate on a new motherboard. You would have to buy another license.

2. The 4870 is pretty decent, and I highly doubt that you would notice an improvement in those 2 games you play by adding another one.

3. You may be better off saving up your money for a complete budget build.

Even at 4g you would not have lock-ups. Not many things utilize the full extent of the RAM. The problem should be elsewhere.
