Mixed Vertex 2/Sandforce RAID 0?

Thread Starter
Hi, I have a vertex 120gb vertex 2, and am considering getting a second drive for RAID 0. I have an opportunity to get a Corsair Force F120 drive for very cheap, so I was wondering, would it be possible to put my Vertex 2 in RAID with another sandforce SF-1200-based drive, such as the F120? Or would it cause some problems?

yes you can do it. Not normally advised if the drives have different specs. should be fine here as they are both SF-1200. I have even used mismatched hard drives with no issues!

You would lose TRIM and be bottlenecked by the controller if in RAID array. Better get a good single drive like Crucial m4.

P.S. Computurd, add your specs already.

Trim is supported by the latest intel rst.
This includes raid0

The problem with mixing drives will be your array will be determined by the slower ssd

Oh please.. Did you just walk out of the cave?

RAID arrays are not supported.

Single drives in SATA RAID mode are.

Maybe u should ^do some research

Guess we're living in different caves. And that article is dated 2010.

Maybe you should give the link? And if it's this bit-tech arcticle, I am gonna slap you!

So violent. But where's your raid array?

Haha.. this article again. I knew you would link it. So yeah, you are wrong, sorry. This article should be removed from the web and Intel has already apologized for misinformation and bad wording, making people believe that TRIM works in RAID arrays. It doesn't and Intel confirmed it later on. TRIM works only in RAID mode with single drive plugged.

I don't have a RAID array myself but it doesn't prevent me from knowing this stuff.

From my understanding, TRIM in RAID 0 & 1 is now supported with the latest Intel RST. The main thing is, it's up to the SSD manufacturers to come up with TRIM support in their individual SSD drivers.
