Mixed Vertex 2/Sandforce RAID 0? - Page 2

Almost all single SSD drives have TRIM (exception is some really old SSDs) and they would all provide TRIM support when plugged in AHCI or RAID mode but as single drive only (also the controller should support TRIM ofc, Mravell doesn't).

As soon as you create a RAID array of SSDs, TRIM is gone..

I know about the lack of TRIM in RAID, though i've heard that the non-TRIM garbage collection in the sandforce controller is quite good, almost negating TRIM in RAID 0. As for the limitation being the slower drive, both should be pretty much exactly the same performance-wise, no?

Regarding GC, the main problem with it is that it takes time to kick in, you need to leave the PC idle for a while for GC to start working (even log off for best outcome). While TRIM does it's thing on the fly as soon as you delete any data from your SSD.

Regarding limitations of using different drives in RAID array, I don't know.

The idle part of things shouldn't be an issue for me, as my PC usually stays idle and locked for 4-5 hours a day while I'm at school (yes, I have reasons to keep it on )
