Difference between a custom loop and a Rasa kit?

post #1 of 14

First off, I'm going to be going into watercooling in the next 1-2 months. I'm in need of some advice because this will be my first time. Budget is not really on my mind right now. I just need to know whats gonna be going on overall.

WC setup is going to cool my 920 and an upcoming 6950. Has to be a 240rad. I won't be using the bay reservoir that comes with the Rasa kit because I'm going to purchase the T-Virus reservoir from FrozenQ. All of this is going to be in a Fractal Design Arc Midi.

I have heard some great things about the Rasa kits. Relatively cheap compared to a custom loop and it comes with everything you need. I have never read up on the performance of this kit though. How are the temperatures and such compared to a custom loop? I have also heard some things about the tubing, but that isn't a big deal because I'll just purchase some primochill tubing. The major thing that concerns me is the pump. I have read reviews on Frozencpu that it has failed often and it had to have replacements. I'm sure that some of them might have been from user error, but it couldn't happen that often right? How is the reliability on the pump and how does it compare to a Swifttech one?

TL;DR
- How is the performance of the rasa kit?
- Pump problems?

If your already going to get a dedicated res and tubing, you might as well skip the kit and go custom, since lot of people also replace the fans too and the water block is past it's prime.

I'd get the XSPC raystorm and keep an eye on the reviews of the XSPC EX rad's. Supposed to be RX or near RX performance in a slim profile, but my thought is that it will won't be, but will be the best performing slim rad.

I have the rasa 750 rx360 kit.

Performance is good.

Pump is fine.

The fans that come with rx kits:

XinRuilian 120mm Fan 0.18A (RDL)
Ref: 1062

* Current - 0.18
* Speed - 1700RPM
* Airflow CFM - 65.12
* Noise dBA - 30

No need to replace the fans, they are some of the best performance/noise fans currently available and xinrulian fans are also used by other suppliers like swiftech.

I've also just ordered an ek waterblock for my 6950 so will see how it performs afterwards.

I have had great success with my Rasa kit. Definitely a good start for someone new to water cooling. Just make sure to buy some Primochill tube to replace the stuff it comes with.

No pump problems. I have 2 360 rads, a cpu block and a GPU block. And the block that comes with the Rasa kits is quite good, the Raystorm block is better but, it is also 70$...

Are those the same fans that come with the RS kit? Because I don't think he's fitting an RX kit in a PC9-F.

I specified in the OP that I am purchasing a FD Arc Midi.

Sorry yea I read it, just forgot. However, same difference. Neither of those cases is big enough to support a thick rad inside.

The rs/rx kits come with a res/pump combo, so if you are planning on replacing it then you might aswell go full custom as the savings are probably quite a bit reduced unless you can sell the 750 res/pump combo.

the rs kits have the slimmer/higher rpm rads so they might use the 'rhd' variant of the xinrullian fans, these are higher rpm and higher noise, but it'll be one or the other.

I thought the Arc Midi can fit a RX240 rad? Either way, I don't think you are informed on what you are talking about. The PC-9F can easily fit a rad in if you removed the HDD cage, and the Arc Midi is shown to have a RX240 in the posts below.
