I need opinions on this laptop. Do you guys think this is a good deal at $1K?
I'm an engineering student that needs to run Pro-Engineering. I also want to use this to play some games. What do you guys think and is there any better options out there. 1k Limit. Thanks!

Pro-E? An i5 dual-core is overkill. But if you want a quad, go with a 2630QM or a 2x60QM(new revision, higher clocks), both are good values. I'd personally go with Nvidia graphics(drivers). That HP is fine, there are faster options for the same price though(xoticpc.com).

Vaio SA is a good choice, not great for gaming. Any other laptops you're considering? Any other criteria, etc.?

You are gonna have some tough time running a 6770m on a 1080p screen.

Look at the Asus K43sv. My Friend had one with the 540m and it plays BF3 pretty well.

With the 6770m, you won't be running many games at high enough settings on 1080p to use 1gb or 2gb VRAM, so more would be a waste.

I order the laptop. I was wondering if putting a SSD would be worth it. If so which one would be the best to throw in there? Could you guys help me with some choices. I haven't been keeping up with SSD so I don't really know whats good.

I can only recommend asus w their 2 year basic warranty & for the fact that they assemble their mbs themself - unlike others.

Good god, will someone just answer the question in the OP!?

Yes it's easily worth the thousand dollars you are planning on paying for it. It's fairly powerful too so I think you'll be plenty happy with it. That and it'll future proof you for a while.
