GTX570 DirectCUII fan chatter issue

Thread Starter

I'm having a slight nuisance with my Asus GTX570 DirectCUII, one of the fans seems to 'chatter' at higher speeds, producing a rather low, but nonetheless unsettling noise when spinning. With the fan past 50%, the noise gets louder and more frequent, but is drowned out by noise of the fans. It's like a little chattery undertoned heartbeat that increases/decreases with fan speed.

Any idea what this is and the best way to go about solving this? The card is well past the 30 day return policy to the store, and I really don't want to be without my GPU for long if I'm RMAing it.

Thanks

Edit:
I'm not crazy right? It's not as noticeable on the video but I can still hear it..

If nothing is physically obstructing the fan, from what you describe, it sounds like the blades may be scraping against the shroud.

Some people have mentioned that with other Asus cards if I'm not mistaken.

Simply touching my finger to the hub fan closer to the front of the case as it spins quiets the noise completely. I'm not talking great amounts of pressure either, the fan still spins at it's full speed.

It's not an end-of-the-world noise, but one that once you are aware of, will drive you nuts.

I recommend RMA, the problem is that fan aren't running well balanced (centered) and are vibrating from side to side and that can cause the noise.

Here is the same noise from different fan. http://youtu.be/Nl4hvs2bC90
