Need Vcore and Temperature feedback

Thread Starter
I recently finished building my new rig and I am in the midst of doing a stable overclock that is meant to last for quite sometime (around 3+ years).

At current, this is what is going on as we speak:
- i7 2600K multiplier set to 44X (4.4GHz)
- Vcore is set to 1.365V
- Using Prime95 to test

One hour into the test this is the current results:

It is currently 1 Hr 45 Mins into the test now and so far no BSODs or spikes in temperatures. At current what I am seeing right now is the package temperature hovering around 73-75C range.

I just want to know if my Vcore is suitable for such a setting, and is it normal for my i7 to be running at this temperature? My H50 is using the push-pull configuration at the moment.

Each chip is different for what exactly is required for overclocking. So, while one chip might OC at 4.4GHZ @ 1.25v, another might require 1.35.

Both your temps and vcore are well below intels threshold @ 1.52v and 95c respectively. That being said, there is a LOT of information around here that you can read to learn more about overclocking, voltages, temps, stability and BSOD error codes etc... Start with clicking here

That aside, have you tried to slowly go backwards with your vcore? You *should* be able to go a little lower and still remain stable at 4.4. Try reducing the vcore by 0.005 until you're no longer stable, then just bump it back up 0.005 - then you know your sweet spot.

No I havent tried lowering the Vcore yet, but from my previous testing with this Vcore setting @ 1.365V and multiplier set to 45X (4.5GHz) I had BSOD about 2 mins into the test, but once i dropped the multiplier to 44X (4.4GHz) everything remained stable. Not so sure what to think of this though.

that seems reasonable..i think the one i had needed 1.372 @ 4.5 ghz..however..@ 4.4..it required a LOT less..that seemed to be the point where voltage requirements started ..er..needing bigger chunks of voltage for each step-up

Okay so 2 hours into the test the results is like this:

I am just very curious, why is the max Vcore at 2.15V? I thought I set the Vcore in BIOS to 1.365V.

It is probably a software glitch. You should be fairly good once you can get to 12 hours Prime95 stable (although I go 24 hours because I am more paranoid about stability ).

Wow makes me glad my i5 is stable so far for 14 hours and counting as a type @ 4.5 1.285 volts (1.275 failed prime at 22 hour mark ). I would also like to say to make sure and check the error guides and make sure it isn't your ram making you unstable those volts just seem way too high, I mean you could have a bad chip but I would guess something else is unstable. Good luck I hope you can lower those volts and get it nice and stable.

Nice, yeah it passed 3 Hours and 20 minutes of Prime 95..and at current I am using IntelBurn to verify stability. (Note that my definition of stable is being able to play any kind of ultra-high stress games like Crysis 1/2 and BF3 with no hiccups for hours on end).

Just a quick question though, intelburn has the small number box that shows "Test to run:[5]" is this the number of cycles people are talking about when doing 20-100 cycles? Or do you need to manually click start after every test?

Keep using prime. Ibt is best for quick 15 to 20 minute tests to check quickly for instability. Run with prime. I would say minimum of 12 hours once you get to where you feel it is stable. I also run 20 passes of linx when I am done with that with max memory.

1344 and 1792 fft tests in prime will help with checking stability too, but they do not always mean you can pass for 12 hours. Think of it this way, if you can remain prime stable for 12 hours and pass linx, games will have no problem.
