Problem is, my parents are kinda negative on gaming, thinking it a waste of time and expensive, any suggestions on convincing them to get a new PC for me?

forgot to mention that i live in India, its not a culture here for people in school or college to have jobs. so getting one is rather out of the question. Also for my current specs, its a core 2 duo 2.4ghertz, nvidia 8400gs, 2gb DDR2 RAM, so u can understand my situation

Well if you can't make your parents pay, can't get a job, and aren't prepared to murder them for your inheritance, then I think you are shizz out of luck.

Look on the bright side: your current rig will play Battlefield at max settings Battlefield 1942, that is.

Then how do they expect you to get money? Do people in India do nothing social that requires money until they are out of school?

All I can see happening if they won't let you have a job. Would be to convince them you need it for school, and hope they don't catch you gaming on it lol.

Personally I think too much gaming can be a bad thing when its cutting into school, reading, sports/outside activity or social life. But I really think that people who don't play games will be at a disadvantage in the future.

I mean the right game can force you to think to find solutions to problems and interact with your environment. Obviously its not reality, but books aren't reality either yet people see hardcore book worms as "geniuses." If their reading nothing buy junk dime romance novels their really not learning anything other than possibly about spelling and grammar.

Sorry I really cannot understand your situation. That's not all that bad of a rig. Get a heat sync for the CPU and overclock it, buy a 4850/5770/5750 and you will be able to play a decent amount of games. That computer really isn't that bad.

tell them you've always wanted to build a PC.
also besure to pitch in with your saved cash as well.
the argument that your custom build pc is cheaper and faster than OEM ones is also good.

tbh i didn't get much opposition from my parents to build sig rig except the occasional "how come your computer is faster than mine? :/ "
