I always prefer single slot solutions. (6950 2gb looks pretty saweet)

Yeah if the 2gb 6950 is in your price range, its definitely a good and popular choice. Like the others are saying you may not NEED an upgrade for Skyrim, but if you want to do one, the 6950 is good. Also worth a look would be the 560ti or 570 if you can find one in budget.

EDIT: just saw you decided to stick with 5850, I'm sure thats fine for skyrim

I'm in the same boat as you...I currently have a GTX280 and I want a new card for BF3/Skyrim. I'm thinking about going with the 560 Ti 2gb but the new cards coming out look so damn tempting. If they're too expensive I can always snag up a current gen card when the prices drop.

Ya How are the 560ti/570 compared to the 6950 out of curiosity?

edit: They have the 560ti for pretty cheap at a store near me....

Skyrim should not be that difficult to run. The promises of Ultra Textures, etc have fell flat. I guess they assume the mod community will pick up their lack of effort as usual.

Stick with what you have and if you need it get a 7xxx when they come out.

Considering a 560 Ti 1gb performs closely to a 6950 2gb I think if you can get a 560 Ti 2gb to definitely pick it up. They run about $20 more than the 1gb counterparts. The 570 typically bests the 6950 2gb in every test. My only concern is the amount of VRAM on the 570. With games like BF3 sucking up over 1.5gb of VRAM, I believe 2gb is going to become the norm.

hmmm the 560ti 2gb seems like it might be worth it, since I have a feeling the new 7xxx series and Kepler are going to be very expensive when they come out anyways.

edit: Wow there is like ONE model 560ti 2gb.......damn they must be rare.

If you are going to get one I suggest the MSI version. The EVGA has all sorts of issues.

I would say just stick with your 5850 for now because it will probably almost max that game anyways. Then upgrade to the 7xxx series when it comes out even if that is after the release of the game.

The 2nd 5850 idea is good if you can get a cheap used one.
