My AMD Build

Thread Starter
Would someone tell me if my build is okay. This system is not yet up because i still don't have a video card. so here's my rig

CPU: AMD Phenom x6 1055t 2.8GHz
CPU Cooler: Stock at the moment. Planning on getting CM Hyper 212+
MB: Asrock 990FX Extreme 4
HDD: 500GB WD Caviar Blue SATA 3.0 7200RPM
VGA: Powercolor 6790 1GB (Incoming)
RAM: Gskill RipjawsX 1600MHz CL9D 1.5v
PSU: Corsair GS600w
Case: Thermaltake Armor A60
Monitor: 21.5 Samsung LED 1920x1080
ODD: Samsung 22x SATA

Any thoughts?

would this rig run games like GTA IV, COD, Left 4 Dead 2, SC2, Battle Field and other high end games?

It will but get a quad core processor, games don't use more than 4 cores. An i5-2500K is a much better processor than any of the AMD processors. It's sad, but true . But if you have the system already then it is fine, no worries. You can run all high end games, but you might want to save up a little more for a better graphics card if you want to run them on really high or ultra settings.

What resolution are you running?

your better of buying a i5 2500k and a asrock xtreme 3 gen 3 z68 board and its future proof with ivy bridge
post #5 of 16
Are you planning on putting a bulldozer in at some point? For if not i'd say the 990fx wasn't entirely necessary.
Also a 6950 would do fine and save you more money, which you could then save up for another gpu or something.

actually your wrong, games do use 6 cores, BC2 utilize all my 6 cores and also BF3.
so if you planing to play demanding game like Dirt 3, BC2, BF3 and do some video editing then you should get the 6 cores.

Get the 6950 yo! That s the magic card now for battlefield 3.
I have phenom II 965 oc 3.9Ghz and it runs 90% all cores while playing the battlefield 3 beta. It runs cool because I have a giant cooler but more cores if good to have. I also agree with the other guy intel is better then amd but amd is cheaper.
