Gskill ECO vs Gskill Flare

Thread Starter
I am think about getting new ram for my rig, the Ripjaws that I am currently using can't overclock worth a damn. Now I want to get 8 gigs, because I don't want to have to upgrade my ram anytime soon, and some games that I have already use more than 4 gigs while I have background programs open. So looking around I found these 2 sets which caught my eye.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231321

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231369

Now granted, if I pick either of those I will be using 4 dimms. Would that hurt the max speed much? I am just hoping that I can achieve Cas 7 at a decent speed (+1600).

I linked my current maxxmem.

You can get decent speeds from both these kits
I have the Gskill flares for sale right now 8 gigs worth

have hit cl7
7-8-8-23 @1.65 @ 1600

But the memory of course is 1800

At 1800 i was able to get on the CHIV board.
8-8-8-21 @1.65
i did not try to go higher then 1800 because i would have to have super loose timings...
Both these kits i beleive are Elpida Chips
i havent taken the heat sinks of the kit im selling because of warranty purposes..

I just realized the heatsinks on the flares are giganormus

Looks like I will have to upgrade my cpu cooler to a h80 or something so it doesn't get in the way lol. Well It might push back buying the ram for a little bit, but the holidays are coming up so hopefully I'll have some extra cash by then.

You just made my decision a lot harder

That is awesome though, just gotta narrow it down now. Probably should get the h80 first I suppose, that way no matter what I get it will fit.

ya thats the only thing they are pretty tall...
but that is a good idea get a simple watercooling or you can look on OCN sale threads to find a rasa kit or somthing to get better cooling..

The flares were ripoffs from the moment they were released. ECOs can OC as well and perform the same or better for less.

Wow that is awesome. XD, I noticed you are using Ecos in your sig rig. Are they the same set that I linked in my first post?
